What If Jon Snow Grew Up With Daenerys and Viserys Targaryen
What If Jon Snow Grew Up With Daenerys and Viserys Targaryen? Let’s explore the depths of it in the video.
The waves lap up against the walls of Dragonstone as Ned Stark disembarks from his boat and approaches the ancient castle. He can feel the Garrison's eyes upon him, some wondering what he’s doing here and others wondering if they can kill or capture him. Ned raises the pole with a white cloak and waves it around, letting his intentions be clear.
A moment later, a figure steps out from the gate. He looks almost tiny in comparison to the massive castle, but Ned knows to treat him respectfully and offers a bow.
Ned: Ser Willem, you’re looking well.
Willem: Are you, Lord Stark? Is the usurper enjoying his throne?
Ned: He does not rest easy with Dragonstone still eluding his control.
Willem: Ah, yes, what could be more dangerous than children? Tell me, did he send you here to negotiate on his behalf?
Ned: I am here on my behalf, my lord.
Before Ser Willem can inquire further, Ned reaches for something from his back and reveals a bundle strapped around his body. Ser Willem’s eyes widen at the sight of a crying infant. He is about to ask who he is, but as he looks underneath the fabric,. He senses something familiar about him.
He recognizes the handsome features of Rhaegar, the brooding expression even on one so young. But he also sees the long features of a Stark and their deep grey eyes. No, he has a very good idea of who this child might be. He reaches out for it and is surprised when Ned doesn’t pull him back.
Willem: Why is this boy here? H-he would be a valuable hostage.
Ned: That is precisely why I brought him here; this is a child, not some bargaining chip. And there is no one in the Seven Kingdoms I trust more than you to know that. You have held this castle against the threats of treason and the risk of siege for almost a year, Ser Willem. Now I ask that you take one more burden. This boy will never be safe here, and if he is, he will never be accepted. He must grow up with his own family.
Ser Willem regards the Lord of Winterfell with fresh eyes. His anger and mistrust faded in a moment. He knew of Lord Stark’s reputation for honor, but now he sees it firsthand and is at a loss for words. All he can do is bow his head and promise he shall see it done.
Ned smiles sadly as he looks at his boy, his nephew, for the last time. A part of him wants to pull him back. He imagines the life he can have in Winterfell, growing up with his other children and his wife. But then he realizes that he will never truly be one of them. To take him home may be seen as a grave insult to his wife. So instead, Ned reaches into his cloak and pulls out a letter.
Ned: There is one more thing, Ser Willem. I doubt I will ever see this little one again, but you will watch him grow up. When you believe the time is right, give him this letter so he may know when he is ready.
Willem: I will, my lord. What is his name?
Ned: Jaehaerys.
With that, the two exchange a final bow, and Ned disappears into the waves as his ship sails off. Soon enough, Dragonstone’s position becomes untenable as the Royal Fleet surrounds them.
Ser Willem decides to make his escape, making his way to Essos with three children and a few loyal men. They land on Braavos, where Ser Willem raises the children in a small house he managed to purchase with the money he got from Dragonstone.
For the first few years, they grow in a stable life as Ser Willem raises the children himself. He teaches them to read and write, and about the histories and faiths of the Seven Kingdoms. He makes their homeland still feel alive even if they live so far away. Jaehaerys and Daenerys adore these lessons, taking them in like stories and legends.
But while quiet, they are not entirely safe as the old knight lives in fear of retribution from the Iron Throne, especially as Jaehaerys is with them. He always fears that one day Robert will learn about the young prince and send his hired knives after him.
From a young age, he teaches them how to defend themselves, especially Jaehaerys, who Ser Willem instills with a desire to protect not just himself, but his siblings.
Willem: You may sit the Iron Throne one day, little prince. You must learn first to protect your house if that day is to come.
He tries to instill the same lessons into Viserys, reminding him that he is the eldest and it is his responsibility to see his House live on. But to the Beggar King, he sees this as an insult. He is the eldest, so why is it that his younger nephew is ahead of him in succession? He is not even true-born. To the angry prince, Jaehaerys is a bastard, and he makes a point of calling him Jaehaerys Sand, unaware of his true parentage.
Unfortunately, this peaceful time does not last long as Ser Willem’s age catches up to him, and as he suffers from a wasting illness, he soon becomes bedridden.
