What if Daenerys Targaryen Was Raised By The Golden Company
What if Daenerys Was Raised By The Golden Company? Let’s explore the depths of it in the video. Willem Darry pulls his hood tighter against his face as he leads the two children into the quiet manse where his allies are waiting. Though there are no outward decorations, inside he sees the banners of a golden skull hanging from a spear. There are banners and tapestries everywhere, depicting the storied history of one of the most successful sellsword companies in the world. But today they are about to conduct one of their most important contracts. One not signed with ink, but with blood. At the main hall, Miles Toyne, Jon Connington, and Harry Strickland are all waiting. They nod towards the older knight and negotiations begin. To the young Targaryen children in their care, they make little sense to them. Only a few words stick out. Ward. Marriage. Blackfyre. The negotiations only last a few minutes, but to them it seems like hours. When at last the figures stand and shake hands, Willem smiles at Daenerys and Viserys. Willem Darry: Welcome to your new home. For the next few years, the two Targaryens live a nomadic life alongside the Golden Company, travelling from city to city, fighting their wars and continuing to make a name for themselves. Though both are young, neither is allowed to live for free and both earn their keep. Viserys serves as the squire of Myles Toyne, while once Daenerys comes of age, she serves as the captain’s cupbearer. Willem Darry continues to serve as their caretaker as Jon Connington serves as Aegon VI’s. Though life is difficult and they are unable to truly set up roots, the two can grow up with a semblance of security and family as the Golden Company protects them from outside threats. Over time, they also learn about the contract forged between Ser Willem and Miles Toyne. They promise to return to Westeros with their army and conquer it for the dragons. When that time comes, Aegon shall marry Daenerys and Viserys shall serve as Lord of Dragonstone and Hand of the King. In the meantime, they will maintain a low-profile. Aegon is raised in secret to be trained for kingship while the Targaryen siblings travel across Essos to gain wealth and connections. Here, their position in the Golden Company becomes an important factor. Their proximity to the organization's leadership allows them to see command first-hand. As Daenerys attends to the captains, she can listen in to their meetings, read their letters, learn about their strategies, and observe how to make deals and negotiate with allies. Harry also takes the time to teach her about different cities, their customs, and leadership. Who could be allies, who are exiles, and who might be useful in the future. At the same time, they also make sure Daenerys is not helpless. Though she doesn’t fight in the front lines, she is still trained to defend herself, under the insistence of Ser Willem. He initially trains her himself, but as age and sickness slow him down, the company master-at-arms takes over, ensuring that when the old knight passes away, he dies content in knowing his charge can defend herself. They hope to do the same for Viserys' squires for Myles, he also reads his letters, attends to him during meetings, and observes him at the planning table. They hope that he studies as diligently as Daenerys, but the young prince proves sullen, arrogant, and angry. While his sister looks to earn her position, he thinks it's owed to him and constantly tries to assert himself. Though Ser Willem urges patience and tries to temper that fire, Viserys never lets his desires go, especially not when he believes he is being cheated. As Aerys named him his heir after Rhaegar’s death, he believes he should be king and Aegon his heir. Ser Willem’s death only amplifies this as Viserys begins to challenge him more openly. However, Myles rejects these ideas and says their plan is clear. For a few more years, Viserys stomachs these insults until one day, he decides at last to challenge the aging captain-general for control of the Golden Company. Though already in his forties at the time, old Myles accepts this duel and soundly defeats Viserys, killing him in the process. Although an accident, it is one few are bothered by. Viserys was already showing signs of instability like Aerys in the past and was becoming more of a liability. In contrast, Daenerys proves more patient and her star rises after her brother’s demise, especially once Harry Strickland takes control of the company. For the next few years they continue their work in the Disputed Lands, Qarth, Braavos, and Volantis. However, the company also keeps a close watch of Westeros, observing the rebellions and looking for potential allies. In the first few years, rebellions remain a major issue for King Robert with the largest being the Greyjoy Rebellion by the Iron Islands. #gameofthrones #daenerystargaryen #targaryen #gameofthroneswhatif #whatif
