What if Robert AND Rhaegar BOTH Died at the Trident
What if Robert AND Rhaegar BOTH Died at the Trident? Let’s explore the depths of it in the video. As the current of the Trident churns around him, Rhaegar limps across the knee-deep water. He raises his sword and tries to rally his men, shouting at them to move forward. However, a roar drowns out his voice and he turns just in time to see Robert advancing. The giant has his hammer pulled back and swings at him. Rhaegar knows better than to try and block his strike. Instead, he leans back as the hammer swings past him and he drives his blade forward, aiming towards Robert’s shoulder. At the last second, the rebel twists aside, avoiding the fatal cut. Cursing, Robert whirls back and backhands him, sending Rhaegar stumbling into the waters. In a moment, Lord Baratheon is upon him, bringing his hammer down in the water, splashing it everywhere. Mud and water rise and cover Rahegar’s armor. Thinking quickly, he digs his boots into the ground and kicks the mud forward, sending some of the muck flying towards Robert as he pulls his hammer back. The Baratheon curses as some of it gets into the slits of his helmet. Rhaegar doesn’t waste this opportunity. Seizing his sword, he drives it into the chink of Robert’s armor, right in the back of his thighs where the plates do not properly cover him. Suddenly, Robert stumbles to one knee as blood rushes towards him. Rhaegar takes a step closer to finish the job. His mistake. Suddenly, Robert’s hammer comes up in a flash. Using his last bit of strength, he smashes Rhaegar’s chest and caves in his breastplate. The prince barely registers the blow as he stumbles to the ground, dropping into the water. Robert takes a moment of grim satisfaction watching the silver prince die before slumping over. Robert: Lyanna, you have been avenged… He doubles over and collapses into the Trident beside him. Around them the two armies are thrown into chaos as they lost both their leaders. However, the difference is that most of the Targaryens' command has already fallen or was incapacitated. Meanwhile, Ned can rally the remaining rebels and lead them to victory. The Royalists are broken, but the rebels are beaten and more importantly, without clear leadership or purpose. Robert was the beating heart of this cause and the only one bold enough to act. Or so they think. Though Ned is a capable commander, it takes time for him to reorganize and think of a new plan. But while that happens, another army begins its march from the west. Upon hearing what happened in the Trident, Tywin Lannister finally stirs from Casterly Rock and advances towards King’s Landing. He sees an opportunity and is not willing to waste it by taking too long. It is easy enough to convince the Mad King to open the gates to their forces, who promptly sack the city. The remaining royalists in the city fight the Lannisters in every street as they are pushed back towards the Red Keep. But all of this is just a distraction. While many fight to protect their homes or properties, Tywin sends a small force to infiltrate the Red Keep. Their orders are clear, to capture Rhaegar’s children and kill the Mad King. However, by the time they arrive, Aerys II is already dead, killed by Jaime and the children are taken into custody. Tywin’s orders are clear. They must be taken alive. With the rebellion leadership but in the ascendant, an uncomfortable question arises regarding succession. Though Robert was a main contender for the throne, his death complicates things as he has yet to establish his dynasty. This leaves Rhaegar’s children as the main contenders. And now Tywin has them under his control. When Ned and his troops arrive, they find the Lannister banners fluttering high within the city while Tywin sits on the Iron Throne with Aegon VI on his lap and Elia Martell by his side. Ned: What is the meaning of this? Tywin: What do you mean? I have brought an end to this rebellion. Aerys is dead and you have dealt with Rhaegar. All those who have wronged the rebel lords of the Seven Kingdoms have been punished. Ned: And what is it you are doing on the Iron Throne. Tywin: Helping our new king sit atop it. Blades like this are no place for a child. Unless of course you have someone else in mind who wishes to claim the Iron Throne. Ned glances towards the lords who accompanied him, but none of them say anything. Robert was gone and even now they still don’t have any idea who should succeed the Iron Throne. However, at this point there is only one answer and Tywin knows it. Tywin: Then I suggest you bend your knees and accept your new king, lest you wish to sully the noble cause Robert Baratheon fought for. Slowly, each lord drops to his knees and swears fealty to King Aegon, Sixth of his name. The last of which is Ned Stark. News soon spreads to rebel and royalist alike with orders to stop fighting and pay homage to the new king. #gameofthrones #robertbaratheon #targaryen #gameofthroneswhatif
