Taking time off the gym every time you are injured or experiencing pain is probably why you aren’t making much progress. You’ve probably been told for years that if something hurts it means it is damaged, so you take time off to let it recover. In this video, I tell you why that is NOT true and how you should manage your lifting injuries instead. A few years ago, I was in exactly the same position you're in right now. I followed the generic intermediate training programs like Wendler 5/3/1, 5x5, Texas Method, etc. I felt beat up all the time, with frequent aches and pains. Any time something flared up or I experienced an injury, I would take a few days off. Although the injury settled down during the time off, it came straight back within a few days of hard training. Eventually, I got stuck in this cycle of: train -- experience pain -- take time off -- back to training & experience pain -- time off and the cycle repeats. With my new understanding of pain, big credit to Barbell Medicine, I've been able to handle my aches and pains in the gym far more effectively and therefore string together far more productive training for more of the year. If you have any questions, leave them in the comment section of this video. Thank you so much for watching & I hope this video helped you. ____________________________________________ Timestamps: 00:00-00:35 - Introduction 00:35-3:17 - What is pain and how does it work? 3:17-5:10 - The problem with traditional injury management advice 5:10-10:24 - A better way to manage pain/injuries in the gym 10:24-10:59 - Outro ____________________________________________ Written & filmed by Ben Johnson About me: I’m a competitive powerlifter with a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Sport & Exercise Science.
