How to Build a Perfect Back Day
While the most important aspect to building muscle is always going to be mechanical tension achieved through progressive overload, how you go about it (especially as an advanced athlete) becomes more and more nuanced. CAN you build a good back without specialization? Yes. Can you build your BEST back without some form of specialization? Absolutely not. If you want to continue to make progress year over year, nuance and detail becomes more and more important.
One final note I want to add to this video is that nearly all of these exercises emphasize stability. This is NOT me saying you can't develop a good or even great back with free weights. So before you rush to the comments section to ask where the free weight barbell rows are, this is my response. If that's what you have available to you, use it and become the best darn BB rower in the world. You'll certainly develop a very good back this way. But when you do have the option for more stability, particularly in the context of an overall training regime, it just makes sense to opt for these more often in my opinion.
