You just need to show up. Some of the most widely enjoyed images in history were created by inexpert hands and were more the result of opportunity than technical prowess. Of course, it helps to know what you're doing but even after decades of perfecting the art, there's still no substitute for being in the right place at the right time. This is perhaps the most significant trait of the professional landscape photographer.
