The BEST HDRI Dome Setup for realistic Integration and Ground Effects

In this tutorial, we’ll build a custom HDRI Dome Integration Setup that achieves far better results than V-Ray’s built-in tools, like the Finite Dome. By using actual geometry with standard shaders, we can create more realistic Ground Integration compared to traditional methods. This setup allows for advanced effects, such as bump mapping details, reflections, and even water puddles, all reacting naturally to HDRI illumination.

✅ Set Up a Custom Dome: Build a flexible HDRI Dome Setup for enhanced control.
✅ Improve Ground Integration: Use geometry and standard shaders to achieve realistic surface blending.
✅ Derive Floor Effects: Add details like bump mapping, realistic reflections, and water puddles.
✅ Apply the Workflow Across Tools: Use this method in other software (Cinema4D, Maya, Blender, Houdini) and render engines (Corona, Octane, Redshift, Arnold, Cycles, Eevee).
I’m using 3ds Max and V-Ray 6 in this demo, but the workflow can be replicated in other V-Ray versions and rendering tools.
