The History of Red Ball 2 Speedgolfing Speedruns

(Note from Maximum: April Fools!) Golfing is a real-world sport that has been replicated in the digital realm for almost as long as video games have existed themselves. These virtual golfing experiences each offer some kind of unique twist on the sport, with no game being just like any other. In the third bonus level of a flash game called Red Ball 2, there is a short golfing minigame that certainly stands out from the pack. Rather than trying to obtain a low number of strokes, the goal of the level is simply to roll the golf ball to the end of the level as fast as possible. Speedrunners initially took little interest in playing the golfing challenge, but its exploded following a sequence of extremely real events that happened at the start of 2021.
