eMMC vs. NVMe SSD vs. SD card speed comparison:
SD card SDR104:
max. read speed: 100 MB/s
max write speed: cca. 30 MB/s (depending on an SD card "V" rating)
eMMC 5.1 max. read speed:
SDR (single data rate) = cca. 250 MB/s, DDR (double data rate) = cca. 400 MB/s
eMMC 5.1 max. write speed:
SDR = cca. 150 MB/s, DDR cca. 200 MB/s
PCIe x1 Gen 2:
max. bus speed = 500 MB/s,
NVMe SSD actual measured read/write speed cca. 430 MB/s on PCIe x1 (single lane) bus.
PCIe x1 Gen 3:
max. bus speed = 985 MB/s
eMMC is slower than NVMe SSD on PCIe x1 Gen 2, but it is practical when we need the PCIe M.2 slot for other PCIe devices like AI modules.
