MakerBot Replicator 2 Squeaking and Not Extruding Fixed w/ Routine Maintenance
MakerBot recommends doing routine maintenance after 50 hours of print time. I'm currently at 45 hours and both my X-axis idler pulley and Z-axis threaded rod are squeaking. In addition I'm having a large amount of extrusion failures. This video shows how to lubricate your rods and clean your extruder drive gear.
After doing these two basic maintenance steps my Replicator 2 is no longer squeaking and is doing a better job of extruding PLA (not perfect though).
I mention in the video that I'm going to upgrade my extruder. MakerBot is offering a free upgrade that you can learn more about here:

But don't hold your breath. I ordered this on May 15th and it's been over 6 weeks and I still haven't received it. I can't complain because it's free (you pay for shipping) so hopefully it will arrive soon.
Here is the original part if you want to print this yourself:

Keep in mind you'll still need to order a spring and a few other parts. That's why I opted for the MakerBot "kit".
