How to Turn a Wood into a 175cm One-Piece LongBow!
In the last episode, I crafted a stunning bamboo composite bow. However, some of you shared that sourcing bamboo can be quite challenging. Taking that into consideration, this time, I’ve decided to create a 1.75-meter single-piece straight bow using a single piece of Tuo wood.
This bow features carefully tapered limbs that gradually narrow and thin, striking a balance between elegance and functionality. The finished piece measures 175 cm in length and delivers a draw weight of approximately 40 pounds. Crafting a single-piece bow comes with its unique set of challenges, the most critical being the selection of suitable materials. It’s essential to opt for wood that is straight-grained, sturdy, and free of large knots. Additionally, the wood should be properly seasoned, with fresh logs left to dry for at least two years to achieve the necessary durability and flexibility.
Once you’ve secured the right material, the next step is to carve the bow into shape. This is where the true artistry begins! In the video, I walk you through each step of the process in detail, from shaping the limbs to finalizing the design. If you’re passionate about traditional bow-making or just curious about the craft, be sure to check it out!
