How to Tap Center Pottery — A Beginner's Guide
I've wanted to remake this guide for a while now. The elusive tap centring, (yes I'm writing 'centring' & 'centering' to bit both US/UK searches), is a tricky process to learn, but there is simple logic behind it, and in this video I hope to teach the process to the best of my abilities. From how to tap, where to strike, what's a good wheel speed and how this technique can increase the efficiency in your studio. The old version of this video has a lacklustre narration and I think the visuals are improved massively, to hopefully really clearly demonstrate how I tap centre pots, and most importantly, teach myself to SEE when the pots are centred. Thanks for watching — I hope this helps! 📖 • ORDER MY BOOK: https://geni.us/bymyhands 🏺 • You may also be interested in my 'A Beginner's Guide' series, which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2WJhtTF0eGhQwf8g2LHcom_KrvJpH_JT Timecodes: 0:00 - Introduction 0:27 - What is tap centring & why is it useful? 2:10 - The basics... 3:05 - LINES on the wheel-head 4:43 - The problem with learning this skill as a beginner... 6:33 - WHERE I tap the pots 7:54 - How to use a finger/thumb as a guide 9:01 - A better use for your spare hand... 11:11 - What wheel speed should I use? 12:22 - The trouble with overcomplicated this technique 14:50 - A more advanced technique, centring by eye, the ultimate goal. 17:23 - Clean up • Find out much more via the link below! https://linktr.ee/floriangadsby • Get in touch here: https://www.floriangadsby.com/contact Sign up to my newsletter here: https://www.floriangadsby.com/newsletter
