Making Handmade Vases — THE ENTIRE POTTERY PROCESS
This video shows the creation of a new, angular bud vase form. It goes from the beginning, to the end, from a lump of high-iron stoneware clay that's transformed on a pottery wheel into a flower vase, (of some, peculiar kind). I then demonstrate the trimming, bisque firing, waxing, glazing and reduction firing to 1290ºC — the lot! I hope you enjoy this in-depth tutorial and please let me know what you thought in the comments! 🌫 • YSP EXHIBITION INFORMATION: https://ysp.org.uk/whats-on/exhibitions/florian-gadsby-by-my-hands 📖 • PRE-ORDER MY BOOK: http://ow.ly/9wYn50MQXV5 🏺 • If you want to learn how to throw a pot, you might like my 'A Beginner's Guide' series: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2WJhtTF0eGhQwf8g2LHcom_KrvJpH_JT ⚙️ • Spinner tool, made by Richard Carter, (you need to DM him on Instagram to purchase one): https://www.instagram.com/richardcarter6952/ 📢 • Find out much more about my work here: https://linktr.ee/floriangadsby ⏱ • Timecodes: 0:00 - Introduction 0:15 - Preparing and wedging stoneware clay 1:17 - Throwing the angular vases 8:58 - Trimming the angular vases 15:55 - Packing the electric kiln for a bisque firing to 1000ºC 17:12 - Unpacking the bisque firing 17:45 - Waxing the feet 18:47 - Glazing the vases 22:23 - Tidying up the glazed surfaces 25:07 - Packing the gas kiln 27:26 - Reduction firing to 1290ºC 30:15 - Unpacking the gas kiln 31:17 - Sanding the base of the vases 31:49 - THE FINISHED TRIO *It's worth noting! That you won't get the same results as I do if you're firing in oxidation. The reduction firing really helps with this process. *I throw using both a Rohde HMT 500 & 600 potter's wheel and fire using Rohde kilns too, the electric is a TE-200 and the gas kiln is a KG-340. ____ Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/floriangadsby/ TikTok – https://www.tiktok.com/@floriangadsby Website – http://www.floriangadsby.com
