How to Make the CHEAPEST SOAP! (because inflation sucks)

I made the cheapest, most inexpensive cold processed soap recipe possible, and I’ll show you the whole soapmaking process! The secret to making the cheapest soap ever is to use one type of oil or fat - this is called Castile soap. For me, I went with canola oil because canola oil is readily available, cheap, and produces a good bar of soap (though you’ll have to watch and see the way that it lathers…). If you can get your oil for free, then the price of the soap will only come from the lye so borrow from a friend if you can! As much as I wished for this soap to smell good, I cut out the fragrance because fragrance is super expensive. I also increased the superfat percentage to 8%, which is about the threshold of superfat for a bar of Castile canola oil soap. Having a higher superfat for soap will reduce lather, make the soap softer, and make it more susceptible to DOS (“dreaded orange spots” in the soapmaking community!) but this is the cheapest soap we’re making here!
