Forging snakes is a good project for a beginner blacksmith, as it is a relatively straight forward process, that lends itself to personal expression. In addition to candle holders, this snake motif can be used to create towel bars, toilet paper holders, coat hooks and a whole host of other potential products. As this is a fairly quick process using little steel and utilizing minimal tooling, the beginner Smith can make sale-able items to sell at their local renaissance fair or craft show.
