Fluid Mechanics Lesson 15D: Normal Shocks

Fluid Mechanics Lesson Series - Lesson 15D: Normal Shocks. In this 15-minute video, Professor Cimbala describes normal shocks using two analogies: (1) A traffic shock, and (2) A coin shock. He also performs a short experiment for the latter. He discusses which variables increase, which decrease, and which stay the same across a normal shock. He then lists equations that are used to calculate the change of gas properties, such as pressure, temperature, density, etc., across a normal shock. Finally, he does an example problem - a normal shock in the diverging portion of a converging-diverging duct. This video incorporates material from Section 12-4 of the Fluid Mechanics textbook by Cengel and Cimbala, Edition 4.
