In this video, I’ll guide you through everything you need to know about choosing the right thread for bookbinding.
I’ll share my top recommendations for thread materials, explain the differences between linen, cotton, polyester, and nylon, and dive into the details of the lea numbering system and ply.
I’ll also discuss how to pick the best thread thickness based on your paper type, binding style, and design preferences.
From unwaxed linen thread to different thread thicknesses, this video will help you understand the key factors that go into selecting the perfect thread for your project.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your skills, this guide will help you make informed decisions about the thread that works best for your bookbinding projects.
Thickness/ply = diameter
18/3 = 0.53mm
25/3 = 0.45mm

The skeins I use are: 18/3 25/3 40/3 ply
