Diagnosing & Fixing The MOAC: It Wasn’t the Cutter After All! 🔧
We thought The MOAC had warped from tufftriding… but the real issue was something else entirely! After using it on a recent hydraulic cylinder repair, it was obvious something was seriously off. We were expecting precision, but the cuts weren’t clean — and time was ticking before the next repair job rolled in. This video is all about diagnosing and fixing The MOAC so it performs the way it should. We started by checking for run out and straightness to see if the nitriding process had warped the cutter plate — but everything looked good. That’s when we discovered the real culprit…the arbor was badly out of spec. Using a dial indicator, we found significant run out on all faces of the arbor. The only way to fix it properly was to re-cut the taper. That meant dialling in the compound angle on the lathe and machining a fixture to get the arbor running true before machining the taper to bring it back to spec. Once we finished the repair, we reassembled everything and it was time to put The MOAC to the test. Will it cut properly now? Watch to find out.
