In this Building Management System training video, we discussed the selection and sizing of the motorized control valve. In terms of control action valves can be two-position valves and modulating or floating valves. In terms of construction style valves can categorize as Globe valves, cage valves, ball valves, plug valves, and butterfly valves. In terms of motions valves can linear or rotary valves. We also discussed about static pressure rating of the valve and close-off pressure rating of the valve. Close-off pressure is the maximum differential pressure valve that can withstand in close positon without any leakage. To size, a valve it is very important to select a proper flow-coefficient Cv value for the valve. For a two-position valve, the highest Cv valve shall be selected, while for a modulating valve flow-efficient or Cv value is very critical for efficient control. A motorized actuator uses a motor to open or close the valve. The different things shall be considered for the selection of proper motorized valve actuators for your application.
