ZK12: Accelerating Client-Side Cryptography with WebGPU - Tal Derei
This was recorded at the ZK12 - Zero Knowledge Summit 12 on October 8th, 2024 in Lisbon, Portugal. https://www.zksummit.com/ Title: Accelerating Client-Side Cryptography with WebGPU Speaker: Tal Derei Project: Penumbra Description: The potential and limitations of using WebGPU to accelerate client-side cryptography, particularly for tasks like multi-scalar multiplications in ZK proof generation. WebGPU exposes the capabilities of a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) in the web browser, enabling developers to accelerate computationally heavy tasks using GPU parallelism. Earlier this year, we participated in the ZPrize competition and would like to use this opportunity to share our technical findings, highlighting what worked well and the challenges we encountered while working with WebGPU. Parallelism is a powerful approach to speeding up client-side proof generation, but since WebGPU is a relatively new API standard, there’s a lack of existing technical information grounded in empirical work. ----------- If you are looking to jump into ZK professionally, check out the ZK Jobs board to find job posts from some of the top teams working in ZK - https://jobsboard.zeroknowledge.fm ------------ If you like what we do: - Subscribe to our podcast newsletter - https://zeroknowledge.substack.com - Follow us on Twitter @zeroknowledgefm - Join us on Telegram - https://zeroknowledge.fm/telegram
