Woodturning - Figured & Spalted Aspen Bowl
I was amazed at how beautiful this project turned out. The wood was a section of a very large Aspen tree from Colorado that had been drying in my garage for the better part of a year. Turns out it had a lot of spalting and natural figuring, which isn’t always the case with Aspen. Aspen wood can often be pretty bland. But this was anything but bland! I was stunned at the beauty that was revealed.
Because Aspen is pretty soft, I did have to apply a fair amount of sanding sealer, but the end result was wood that is pretty strong and sanded butter smooth.
