Why 'Love & Mercy' is the best music biopic

Bill Pohlad’s ‘Love & Mercy’ is my number one music biopic of all time. In this video essay I explore how the creation of #BrianWilson and the #BeachBoys #PetSounds is depicted in the incredible film #LoveAndMercy. The look of the film beautifully captures both the creative 60s and complicated 80s, while the performances from Paul Dano and John Cusack are uncanny. Though it’s the way that sound and particularly, how the creative process is explored which really sets ‘Love & Mercy’ apart from the rest, and creates a new standard for how biopics in general could (and should) be made.
