Why It's Okay To Be Fat: Golda Poretsky at TEDxMillRiver
Golda's struggles with weight and body image started early -- she went on her first diet at age 4 when kids in nursery school started calling her fat. For the next 24 years, she tried every diet imaginable until she realized she could make a different choice -- accepting her body and treating it well. In 2008, Golda founded Body Love Wellness, a program designed for plus-sized women who are fed up with dieting and want support to stop obsessing about food and weight. Her Health At Every Size® based programs and activism work have been featured on CBS's The Early Show, ABC's Nightline, NBC's LX New York and in Time Out New York. She is the author of Stop Dieting Now: 25 Reasons To Stop, 25 Ways To Heal and has organized and hosted major body positive online events, including The Body Love Revolutionaries Telesummit and the HAES® Master Class. Follow her at @bodylovewellnes In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
