Hackberry energy bar recipe -
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of hackberries
- 1/2 cup of hickory nuts (or pecans)
- Maple syrup or honey (optional)
- Chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
1. Roast your hackberries until they are completely dry and brittle on the outside (3-4) hours, use a dehydrator or an oven on low
2. Blend the hackberries until they are a fine powder, optionally filter the powder through at least a 1/40th inch mesh for an extra fine product
3. Blend the hickory nuts until smooth overall
4. Mix the hickory nuts and hackberry powder together
5. Optionally add maple syrup or honey to get everything to stick together better
6. Form the material into a ball or your preferred shape
7. Optionally, melt chocolate chips to dip the hackberry bars for an extra decadent finish
