Why Being Your True Self Will Make You Happier
Have you ever felt like you’re living a life that isn’t yours? Pretending to be someone you’re not just to fit in or meet expectations? This video is about my journey of breaking free from the exhausting cycle of pretending and embracing my true self.
Sitting by this serene mountain lake, surrounded by nature, I reflect on how societal pressures shaped the way I presented myself for most of my life. From pretending to enjoy a corporate job I hated, to acting like I belonged in social circles I didn’t care about, I was constantly playing a role. The fear of rejection, judgment, or failure kept me trapped in a cycle of pretending to be confident, happy, and successful—even when I felt far from it inside.
The truth is, living a lie is exhausting. It leaves you feeling empty and disconnected from who you really are. It wasn’t until I made the tough decision to let go of these expectations and embrace my authentic self that I finally found peace.
In this video, I share deeply personal stories about my childhood, struggles with loneliness, and the masks I wore to navigate life. From pretending to fit in with toxic friends to putting on a brave face as a Marine Corps platoon leader, I’ve lived through years of hiding my true feelings. And while it may have seemed like survival, it came at the cost of my mental health and happiness.
Now, I’ve chosen a path of honesty and vulnerability. It’s not easy, and it’s often lonely. But being authentic has brought me peace, clarity, and connections with people who genuinely understand and support me.
This is a conversation about the importance of showing up as your true self, why pretending is so draining, and how being honest—even when it’s scary—can lead to meaningful connections. Whether you’re struggling to fit in, trying to live up to societal standards, or just searching for peace, I hope my story inspires you to take off the mask and embrace who you are.

I’m a former Marine, father, and husband with an MIT background working in the tech industry. After 20 years of pushing myself relentlessly, I hit a breaking point. That’s when I realized there are more important things in life than just money and success. Since then, I’ve slowed down and learned to enjoy the simple things in life, especially spending time with my family and being out in nature.
I want to share my experiences and journey with you so we can focus on what truly matters in life: our health, our family, and finding joy in the present moment.
