Which is most efficient - snatch block or snatch ring?

Energy is used to rotate the pulley, and also to form then deform the rope as it goes around the pulley - whether that pulley is a snatch block or snatch ring.  But how much energy is lost? Do you end up with a 1.99:1 advantage, or 1.5:1?
