When Alpharius Bested Horus, Abaddon, and Erebus
When the Warmaster called Alpharius, the XXth Prmarch to account for his actions things didn't go quite as Horus Lupercal expected.
From the novel Deliverance Lost, by Gav Thorpe, we get the moment that Alpharius walked the razor's edge, and saved the Imperium of Mankind, and the entire human race from extinction.
Hiding a truth so dark and treacherous it would get him and his legion erased from history, Alpharius uses all his tricks and guile to subvert the expectations of the Warmaster, and uses the Lupercal's toadies, Abaddon and Erebus, to his own advantage.
Games Workshop and and the Warhammer 40K community at large love to make a big deal out of the trial of Magnus the Red, but the little known trial of Alpharius Omegon may just be the most important accounting in the setting. For if the trial of Alpharius had gone a different direction then Chaos would have reigned supreme, and cast down the Imperium, consuming all of mankind in a blood bath.
