What Is A RADAR VECTOR? ATC Heading Instructions Made Easy!
In today's video, we are going to talk about the RADAR VECTOR. By the end of the video, you will know what a radar vector is, why the Air Traffic Controllers use Radar Vectors, and how do we use them during everyday operations. The Radar Vector is an instruction sent from the Air Traffic Controller to the pilot in order to follow a specific heading. Every commercial FLight has got a flight plan with a standard route to follow, so if there would not be any Radar control the pilot would fly to his/her destination following the standard route indicated on the flight plane. The Air Traffic Controllers use radar vectors for many reasons such as traffic flow management, short cut, aircraft identification, and so on. When you receive a radar vector from the Air Traffic Controller you must read it back. It is ok to follow the instruction of the ATC however never sleep and always take into account the terrain that is surrounding you. You can receive Radar Vectors and deviate from your standard route below MSA, and that's fine as long as you constantly crosscheck your position against the terrain. If you are in doubt always challenge the controller.
