What is a Point Cloud?

A point cloud is the raw 3D scan, which is then filtered and processed. A point cloud is created by a 3D-scanning technology. I will explain the software needed to work with point clouds and go over the different file formats. Each point in the point cloud is a measurement point that the 3D scanner has detected on the object’s surface. Each point has an XYZ value that determines its position in the coordinate system.
