Let’s explore the depths of it in the video. Anakin closes his eyes and tries to drown out the sounds of the holofeed coming from the ship. It was another speech from the chancellor, thanking the Jedi for their cooperation in helping investigate the bombing of the Jedi Temple. Since the incident several days ago, Palpatine has gone out of his way to thank the Jedi for their contribution to the war. Some believe this is his way of apologizing for the trouble caused by the Repbulic’s interference in the Temple Bombing. Most of the Jedi are happy to accept this publicity boost and remain quiet, but Anakin is not one of them. While he should be happy as this is exactly what he wants, he feels the bile in his mouth as he thinks of the last few days' events. He knows that Ahsoka was almost kicked out of the Jedi Order because of a rushed investigation. That was caused by the Republic military which wanted to get involved despite being a purely Jedi affair. The result was Ahsoka was falsely accused of being responsible for this terrorist attack and nearly kicked out. While the Jedi had apologized and offered Ahsoka her position back, the damage was done and she could no longer trust them. Quite frankly, Anakin couldn’t blame her and never fully forgave them either. However, he also can’t bring himself to look at the chancellor the same way. It was Palpatine’s administration who pushed for this, sacrificing justice for speed and yet he never once apologized, simply sweeping it under the rug. For the first time, Anakin now sees him as a true politician, scheming and deceitful, willing to do whatever it takes to maintain influence. Unfortunately, he gets a little break from this as Palpatine spends the next few weeks going on a charm offensive, trying to win back the Jedi Council to his side. He meets with their leaders, emphasizing their need for unity and playing to their weaknesses, whether that be arrogance, adherence to the Jedi Code, or short-sightedness, he slowly turns them back to his side. Soon enough, Anakin is grateful to be back in the front lines, happy to get a break from politics. Here, at least he knows where the enemies are and can focus on defeating them. Even without Ahsoka, his skills are as flawless as ever, leading the Republic to several victories. While it helps put his mind at ease for a time, something gnaws at the back of his mind, questioning whether he is doing the right thing. After seeing how flawed the Republic and the Jedi are, he questions whether they are truly worth fighting for. These are never far from his mind and come to the forefront during the Battle of Ringo Vinda. After a friendly fire incident involving one of his men, they are quick to brush it off as battlefield stress, but Anakin is not satisfied. A fellow Jedi was killed and one of his men could face criminal charges. But the Kaminoans sweep this under the rug and the Jedi are quick to accept this as a regrettable, but isolated accident. When Anakin urges them to look into it further, Palpatine tells him that there are more important matters. He’s reluctant to obey, but as he prepares to depart back to the front, Anakin receives word that one of his men, Fives, is also doing his investigation and discovered inhibitor chips planted in the clone's minds, but before this investigation goes further, Fives is chased out for nearly killing the chancellor. A few months back Anakin would have gladly defended Palpatine, but now he questions him and hurries to the industrial area where Fives was last spotted. The troopers are hiding in one of the warehouses, muttering to himself about a conspiracy. When he hears footsteps, he suddenly pivots and raises his blaster. Anakin raises his hands. Anakin: Calm down, Fives. There’s no need for that. Fives: General, you’re here to arrest me. Anakin: No, I’m here to talk to you. Fives, what happened up there? They’re saying you tried to kill the chancellor. Fives: That’s not true! He tried to kill me! He’s more than he seems. He’s covering something up. I know it! The words hit deeper than Anakin expected, stabbing through his chest and sending shock rushing across his body. But there is also…relief. That someone else sees it and he isn’t going crazy. The Jedi takes a step closer and meets his gaze. Anakin: I believe you. Fives: Y-you…do? Anakin: I do. But we’re in a delicate position and right now you can’t just go running around spreading conspiracy theories. So here’s what we’ll do. I’m gonna let you escape, but you need to get help. Someone who can help you get to the bottom of this without drawing attention. You need to find Ahsoka. #starwars #starwarswhatif #anakin #starwarscharacter #starwarstheory #jedi
