We flew to Africa to buy and build a used 4x4 all for under $5000. Now we're trying to take it on a 10,000km overland trip through 4 countries and some of the most remote areas of Southern Africa.
While we didn't know what we would end up buying as we were flying down to Johannesburg, we ended up becoming good friends with a man selling a 1987 Toyota Hilux. Famous for their reliability, we would put the Hilux to its test and see if it can still hold up to long distance travel, even at 38 years old. The other challenge would be seeing if we could hold up. With it being the middle of summer, the truck having no air conditioning, and sitting on the ORIGINAL suspension from 1987, we would be in for an uncomfortable ride.
Along the way, we would meet some great people who would help us out before finally starting our 2.5 month trip.
