Waves On Tape 21 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••­­­••••••••••••••••••••••• Slow and evolving ambient soundscape recorded with a vintage cassette tape recorder. Back into the world of tape loops! This week's piece combines the use of recorded strings (not that tiny violin, though) and piano ambience with synthesized lines in various tape loops. The result is a wash of harmonies, slowly evolving from one chord to the next. The synth lines then add a strong motif to make the little melody lines in the tape loops stand out in a harmonic context. Overall, a really enjoyable piece to make. One that reminds me of why I make music, and more specifically experimental music. It is all about the sound, harmony, contrast and musicality in simplicity. The recording process for this track was also a fun experience: left, right and stereo signals were recorded separately and then re-mixed to create the final soundscape. As always, each of these recordings, as well of the final mix were done on exclusively on tape. Enjoy!
