Watch The World's Most Expensive Grand Prix Car Sell at Auction
Watch history unfold as the 1954 Mercedes-Benz W 196 R Stromlinienwagen becomes the most valuable Grand Prix car ever sold—and the second most valuable car ever sold.
This landmark sale took place on Saturday, February 1st, at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. Originally donated to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum in 1965, the W 196 R remained under their careful stewardship for nearly 60 years before being offered alongside 10 other significant vehicles, including the legendary 1964 Ferrari 250 LM—the very car that secured victory at Le Mans in 1965 with Luigi Chinetti’s NART team.
