Wassily Kandinsky and Gabriele Münter in Murnau
He is her teacher, she his pupil: at the beginning of the 20th century, the young Gabriele Münter and Wassily Kandinsky meet in Munich. She becomes his lover, his companion, his muse, she is at his side when he founds the artists' association "Der Blaue Reiter" together with Franz Marc in 1911. She stayed with him for fifteen years - against the will of her family, who did not approve of her living with the married artist. During the First World War, Kandinsky returns to Russia - and marries someone else there. It will take a long time for Gabriele Münter to get over this. It was not until 1927 that she was able to paint properly again. A fascinating biography, the portrait of a woman caught between self-realisation and convention.
