USS Fletcher DD 445 - "The Fighting Fletcher"

USS Fletcher (DD-445) was the namesake of her class— a class that would go down in history as one of the most successful and influential destroyer designs in US Naval history. Fletcher quickly proved her worth in the Pacific Theater, where she participated in the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal and the Battle of Tassafaronga in late 1942 during the chaotic campaign around the island of Guadalcanal. She subsequently supported operations in the central Pacific, New Guinea, and the Philippines. Fletcher was recommissioned just in time to serve in the Korean War and also supported the efforts of the US 7th Fleet off Vietnam. In addition to the 15 battle stars she earned for her service during World War 2, she also earned 5 for her Korean War service, thereby making her one of the most decorated warships in the history of the United States Navy.
