UP Stack Train Eastbound K-Line Stack Train- La Mesa Model Railroad Club
I know what you're thinking, "God, not another K-Line stack train". The reason for the repeated stack trains is for an experiment I conducted distributing weight in containers. The well cars are super light; well below NMRA standards. I've added 1.5 ounces of weight to each 40 foot container and .75 ounces to the 20' containers. The stacked or top containers do not have any additional weight to keep the weight closer to the center of gravity. The additional weight makes for a better operating train. Most are unaware the La Mesa Club is one continuous grade from Ilmon to the Tehachapi Summit. Runaways are not uncommon if rolling stock does not meet specific standards. During the Covid Pandemic, the San Diego Model Railroad Museum and exhibits are subject the limited hours and visitors. We are currently only open to the public Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Members are permitted limited access when the museum is closed to the public to maintain the exhibits housed within the museum. Operating trains is part of the maintenance along with track cleaning and general house keeping. With that, we want to ensure layouts are fully functional when visitors come to the museum and provide a great experience. All locomotives are "Athearn Ready to Roll" models equipped with Soundtraxx Tsunami / Tsunami 2 decoders and Current Keepers.
