Unreal Engine VFX - Using AI for Green Screen Shadows
Thanks for watching and feel free to connect with me on IG: @andrewdileo In this video, I showcase my first attempt at creating 3D casted shadows in Unreal Engine for green screen footage, using a creative workflow with Move AI and Blender. This method is great for adding dynamic, scene-reactive shadows without relying on a big budget or expensive mocap gear. Whether you’re into VFX, camera tracking, or Unreal Engine workflows, this quick tutorial gives you everything you need to try it yourself. Let’s push the boundaries of green screen work. Steps Recap: 1.) Record green screen footage and capture motion data using Move AI Export motion capture data as FBX or USD. 2.) Track your footage in Blender and reconstruct your camera solve. 3.) Add a pre-keyed image plane for your footage and match it to your tracked floor. 4.) Bake transforms to align the footage plane to your tracked camera. 5.) Export the camera, actor, and floor as USD files for Unreal Engine. Import USD to Unreal using the Stage Editor. 6.) Create a media material for the footage and enable Alpha Composite to avoid black edges. 7.) Retarget motion capture data to a human model in Unreal. 8.) Hide the model but check Hidden Shadow for dynamic lighting effects.
