In this Winter Bushcraft Overnighter we camp in 48 hours of heavy snow under our Canvas Poncho Shelters. During this trip We tied two ponchos together to build a bushcraft shelter. The snow was falling, the air was cold, and everything was wet. Starting a fire was a real struggle at first because everything was covered in ice. We tried fatwood, but we could not find it. Then we looked for the dry inside of the wood and made feather sticks. I’m not that good at it yet, but I’m learning! And in these wet and cold conditions, I had to. Even though this is our first real year of living in the Wild & Bushcraft, we had practiced before in the snow. But this was something else. Surprisingly, our setup turned out to be one of the warmest we’ve ever had. Franka built a snow firewall that bounced the heat from the fire back into the shelter. It worked so well! We had a great trip overall. On the first day, we made chicken over the fire and cooked it ourselves, seasoning it perfectly. It tasted amazing! The second day was simpler—hiking food, just a ready-to-eat pasta pouch. Still good when you're out in the wild. We walked to a stream during the trip, which was peaceful. Sleeping next to the water was one of the highlights—such a calm and beautiful place to end the day. After two days in the snow, we were both pretty exhausted and sore. Standing in the cold for 48 hours straight isn’t easy. But we pushed through, stayed creative, and made it work. In the end, it was one of the best trips we’ve ever had. A real adventure in the snow!
