Here we will be working over the A minor pentatonic scale. 1. You can take any notes from the minor pentatonic to build chords. Once you find a combination you like, you can introduce these little fragments of chords between lead lines fora great musical effect. 2. See the minor pentatonic as a skeleton. The notes in the scale will be the bones (strong notes) and the notes in between can be used to enrich your melodic and rhythmic ideas. 3. Use "outside slidy notes". Approach the notes in the scale with slides above or below. 4. Play modal with the minor pentatonic scale as a basis. You are only two notes away from the modes. 5. Modes follow each other. You can use minor pentatonic scales over each of the minor modes and in this way recycle all your pentatonic licks!
