In the modern age of Yu-Gi-Oh, Ghoti tuners cycle infinitely back when banished (Ghoti Paces, Ghoti Shif), Gate Guardian pieces hop into and out of banishment (Suijin, Kazejin, Sanga of the Thunder), and the Kashtira treat banishing like it’s a big joke (Kashtira Fenrir, Kashtira Preparations). But it didn’t always used to be this way. In the bygone days of early Yu-Gi-Oh, getting banished was akin to getting banished facedown today, in that you likely weren’t coming back from it. The term “banishing” wasn’t even part of the game yet. Instead, cards that banished used the text “removed from play,” which indicated just how final a banishment was intended to be. This top 10 is for those early “remove from play” cards that were banishing before banishing was called banishing.
