Tips on using 4-Day Nikko All Area Pass in winter - Kegon Falls & Chuzenji Onsen area on Day 1
You can add a day of skiing in Nikko during winter! We did that on Day 3 of our 4D3N stay in Nikko in December.
Nikko Day 1
Bought Nikko All Area Pass (4-Day) the day before to save time, instead of buying the tickets that morning.
We had stayed in Sakura Hostel Asakusa because we were going to Nikko, as you take the Tobu train from Tobu Asakusa Station. Go to Platform 5. When we were there, only car 5 & 6 of the train went to Nikko, the rest of the cars were going to Kinugawa. So make sure you are on the right car of the train.
It’s important to stay walking distance from Nikko Station. We stayed at Nikko Guesthouse Sumica, 1 minute walk from Tobu Nikko Station. Dropped off our luggage. Walk to a nearby restaurant for lunch.
Took a bus from Nikko station to Chuzenji Onsen (50 minutes). Bus is covered by Nikko All Area Pass.
Kegon Falls, Nikko’s most famous waterfalls, is a short walk from the Chuzenji Onsen bus terminal.
Walk to Lake Chuzenji. Walk to the nearby shrines.
Take bus back to Nikko Station
Explore Nikko town on foot
Dinner in Nikko – Ramen Bonten
Go to an onsen nearby on foot.
Return to hostel on foot.
Good night!
