The Wiz: The Afrofuturist Animated Musical is an animated project (hopefully) to be made into a fully animated feature film. After years of wishing the concept to be produced by other animation studios, I decided to take a year off to create what would take an animation staff only a month or two to do – an animated pitch for a story that deserves to be seen for what it truly was meant to be: a celebration of culture, fantasy and a magical vision of a brighter future seen through the eyes of a child. I think it’s about time for our kids to see some Black joy shine on the screen again. *No AI was used in the creation of this project. Each of the nine hundred and twelve frames of artwork you see were individually hand-drawn, scanned and colored in Adobe Animate.
