The Wessex Electrics - Class 442
Happy New Year everyone! :D Reviving the long dormant practice of dedicated InterCity express trains on the Southern Region, the Class 442 Wessex Electrics, through their distinctive style and use of the proven Mark III coach as their underpinnings, took 1960s technology and tailored it to the railway market of the 1980s, creating what is officially the world's fastest third-rail electric powered train, but one that was so specialized for its function that its eventual withdrawal from top line expresses would inevitably herald a lack of potential ongoing users, and its unavoidable downfall.
