Vancouver Island’s southern coastline is full of peaceful beauty and incredible cityscapes, tracing an international marine boundary. On the west coast of Vancouver Island, Carmanah Point Lighthouse marks the entrance to Juan de Fuca straight. The international waterway dividing Canada from the United States is the sight of hundreds of shipwrecks and with new trade routes emerging from China and Japan, the 1891 construction of a station here ensured safe passage along this marine boundary. 20 km southwest, Port Renfrew marks a rare human presence along this far removed stretch of Canada.
