This concert illustrates the Spanish contribution to the emancipation of the cello. The fact that Luigi Boccherini took up residence in Madrid and its surroundings had a decisive relevance. From this position, he could contribute to the reinforcement of a tradition resulting from the activity of other Italian musicians settled at the Spanish court (Giacomo Facco and Domenico Porretti) as well as from the arrival of scores from Italy.
