Gradually, the PlayStation establishes itself, eventually dominating the market and overshadowing the competition, thanks to omnipresent third-party publishers and a continuous stream of game releases. However, after this resounding success, Sony faces an even more challenging task than conquering the video game market—doing it a second time in the most competitive context in history. Sega gains ground with the Dreamcast, Nintendo continues its streak of legendary games that revolutionized the industry on its previous console, and a new player enters the scene: Microsoft, with its highly anticipated and promising new console.
