It was a tragedy because 800.000. people died of starvation, bombardments and cold during the seige, the vast majority in 1941-1942. Dr.Brovkin is a Russian born American historian, now retired, served as an Associate Professor of Russian History at Harvard Univerity. He is the author of several books on Russian Soviet History.
