In this heartwarming continuation of the story of Mykhailo Panets, the legendary 88-year-old Carpathian shepherd, we witness a new chapter in his life. With his son Vasyl, now 64, and his grandson taking over the family tradition, Mykhailo can finally rest a little more, though he remains involved in the daily life of the farm. He helps with milking the cow, cares for his animals, and continues to share his wisdom and experience with his loved ones.
His son Vasyl, a hardworking shepherd, tirelessly tends to the flock in the snow-covered Carpathian slopes. He feeds the sheep hay and corn, cares for the newborn lambs, and, in the midst of winter, continues the age-old tradition of fertilizing the fields using “polozky”, a traditional horse-drawn sledge. Alongside his father, he repairs and expands the sheepfold, ensuring the future of their farm.
Meanwhile, Mykhailo’s grandson, Semen, eager to learn the family trade, helps his father with feeding the chickens, spreading hay for the sheep, and repairing fences. Even amidst the hard work, Semen finds joy in building a snowman, bringing some lightheartedness to their tough winter routine.
As the day winds down, the family enjoys a simple yet satisfying meal of crispy fried potatoes, cooked on the stove, paired with homemade brinza cheese. This episode celebrates the strength of family bonds, the passing down of traditions, and an unbreakable connection to the land and its timeless customs.
