The First Crusade: 1099 Historical Battle for Jerusalem | Total War Battle
The First Crusade (1096–1099) was the first of a series of religious wars initiated, supported and at times directed by the Latin Church in the Middle Ages. The objective was the recovery of the Holy Land from Islamic rule. While Jerusalem had been under Muslim rule for hundreds of years, by the 11th century the Seljuk takeover of the region threatened local Christian populations, pilgrimages from the West, and the Byzantine Empire itself. Four Crusader states were established in the Holy Land: the Kingdom of Jerusalem, the County of Edessa, the Principality of Antioch, and the County of Tripoli. The Crusader's presence remained in the region in some form until the loss of the last major Crusader stronghold in the Siege of Acre in 1291. After this loss of all Crusader territory in the Levant, there were no further substantive attempts to recover the Holy Land. 00:00 Introduction 00:22 The Seljuks 01:12 The Crusader army 01:45 The Crusaders arrive in Constantinople 02:38 The March to Nicaea 03:23 The Battle for Nicaea 05:11 The Crusaders take Nicaea 05:29 The March to Dorylaeum 06:10 Crusaders attacked on the march 07:31 The March to Antioch 08:10 The Siege of Antioch 09:38 The Sack of Antioch 10:30 The Seljuks lay siege to the Crusaders 11:27 The Crusaders attack the Seljuks 12:33 The time in Antioch 13:13 The March to Jerusalem 14:18 Jerusalem 15:00 The Crusaders arrive at Jerusalem 15:53 The First Assault 17:29 The Siege continues 18:08 The Final Assault 20:08 The Sack of Jerusalem 21:01 Aftermath
