While the world of A Song Of Ice and Fire is a bit more grounded in it's world building than a lot of other high fantasy worlds, it is still a fantasy world with magic, dragons, years long winters and seasons and undead ice zombies. It still has all of these claisc fantasy elements but viewed from a different way. That is also the case of the races within the world of Westeros with George R R Marin's Elves, the children of the forrest being used in a different way than in a more high fantasy setting. In this world Humans are the most dominant race with most of these elder races such as the children, the others and giants fading into history.
